Caves Beach Patrols 2009/2010 (patrol teams, roster and YTD patrol hours)

Patrols rosters are subject to change as membership changes. Refer to this website for changes that may happen.

This year's season commences on Saturday 2nd October 2009 and finishes on the final weekend of April 2010.

It is important to realise that we setup dedicated patrol teams for all Sunday patrols, while Reserve Active and Long Service members are used for Saturday Patrols. This said, all members of Sunday patrol teams will have to do at least one Saturday patrol. This is the grey column on the Patrol Teams Listing. If you have any problems understanding the roster or the patrol teams, please do not hesitate your LifeSaving Co-ordinator Ben Dean or Club Captain Richard Pembroke.

Click here to see how many PATROL HOURS you accumulated for the COMPETITION year (1/1/2009 to 31/12/2009). This is the one to focus on to ensure you have accumulated your 25 or 12 hours (depending if you are Active or Reserve Active). You need to reach these levels to retain your membership and/or to be able to compete.

1) If you cannot attend to your patrol commitments, you must arrange a substitute (ideally with equal awards). Please try swapping with someone on another patrol or call up a Reserve Active or Long Service Member. Always notify your patrol captain!

2) All patrol members must be registered prior to performing a patrol, please contact the Club Registrar (membership) Tina Main 0409719022 Tina.Main@bigpond.com to register.

3) All patrols teams must be comprised of at least 3 bronze medallion holders, with the following awards held within the patrol (Basic Beach Management, IRB Driver, IRB Crew, ARC)

4) ALL Patrol Captains MUST have completed a "Silver Medallion - Basic Beach Management Course".

To clarify anything about the teams, rosters or your patrolling obligations, please contact your Club Captain Richard Pembroke (0409 720556 or Richard.Pembroke@gmail.com)

Patrol Requirements/Obligations

As part of a patrol team or an Active Reserve member you have a basic obligation to ATTEND YOUR ROSTERED PATROLS.

If you are unable to do so you MUST arrange for a substitute to attend in your place. Preferably, someone with the same qualifications as yourself. Then, return the favour whenever mutually agreeable. Alternatively, contact an Active Reserve or Long Service member (remember that Long Service members are not obliged to perform patrols, but many are willing to assist if needed). Always let your patrol captain know about any substitutions.

If all else fails, please contact Richard Pembroke 0409 720556 or Ben Dean 0447 251985.

NOTE that if you are rostered onto Patrol on the same day as a Surf Carnival, it is NOT OK to attend that carnival and compete if you don't have a substitute for your patrol.

The ramifications of non-attendance can include penalty patrols, competition privileges for ALL club members (juniors, seniors and masters being suspended) or the worse case... we may loose our 79 year long impecable record of no lives lost.

Patrols rosters are subject to change as membership changes. Refer to this website or the newsletter for changes that may happen.

If in doubt refer to the Club's Constitution or call your Club Captain.

Patrol Statistics 2008-09

40,000 people enjoyed our beach.

There were a total of 7 rescues

- Rescue Tube 3

- Rescue Board 2

- IRB 1

- no gear 1

First Aid was rendered to 80 people, with 5 requiring ambulance transportation to hospital.

There were 600 Prevenative Actions recorded.

Congratulations to everyone who gave their time to patrol our beach. Over 90 members made up our 12 Sunday patrol teams, supported by 26 active reserves, 27 long service and 2 life members. More than 50 members received awards for 100% Patrol Attendance, this is one of the most important achievements any lifesaver can make, it means you've turned up when needed and supported your team mates. Well-done to those 29 long service and life members who still performed patrol duties despite their years of long service earning them the option not to patrol anymore. Nearly all of those that choose not to patrol are still actively involved in other vital areas of running the club.

Patrol Captain - is this you?

If you feel you have what it takes to be one of our Patrol Leaders or would like to find out more about becoming a Patrol Captain or Patrol Vice-Captain, read on.

The Patrol Captain is responsible for the functioning and safety of all members on their patrol and the safety of the general public. Generally the Patrol Captain's job is an easy one, only having to provide guidance to already trained members so that the requirements of the patrol are met.
In the event of a rescue or other emergency, the Patrol Captain must be able to effectively manage their members and members of the public. The decisions that they may have to make can be life altering. It's important that the Patrol Captain knows what their role is and how to perform it.

The Patrol Captain is a role model that members look up to, someone who can provide guidance, training and more often than not, have a big part to play in moulding younger or less experienced lifesavers into great lifesavers. Caves Beach SLSC is committed to producing the best lifesavers on our coast. As a result we are always looking for enthusiastic people to take on the leadership role of Patrol Captain.
The role of Patrol Captain is a rewarding one & we offer a mentor program for patrol captains.
