As a volunteer workplace, all members of an SLSC must be professionally trained, qualified, and prepared to perform the duties that their volunteer role requires of them.
This page provides an overview of all the Member Training and Education course options available for financial members to patrol within one or more various roles that make up a patrol team.

Awards you can achieve include:
Covers the knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in basic lifesaving operations.

The Bronze Medallion course provides participants with the skills and knowledge in order to be able to participate in Surf Life Saving patrol operations. This is the core award to be a surf lifesaver in Australia.

Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an Inflatable Rescue Boat in surf rescue operations.

The Silver Medallion IRB Driver provides participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations.

The Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate (ARTC) teaches the principles of airway management and oxygen aided resuscitation.

The SLS First Aid course enables patrolling members to develop the skill and knowledge required to effectively manage emergency first aid situations and deliver emergency care until the arrival of professional medical support. The course includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as a component. Proficiency in this award is renewed every 3 years by participating in a SLS First Aid course.
This award includes the same knowledge and skills as the SLS Resuscitation award and the Emergency Care module of the SLSA Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze Medallion. It is also a prerequisite award for other SLS awards, SLSNSW Support Operations roles and a requirement to become a Lifeguard.
CERTIFICATION:
Upon successful completion, members also qualify for the nationally recognised HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation unit of competency (UoC) that has a 12 month validity plus HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid UoC that has a 3 year validity.

- Financial Member
- Minimum Age of 14 years
Note: This course has a requirement that the participants must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 2 minutes of CPR on a manikin placed on the floor as part of the assessment.
COURSE DURATION:
Approximately 8 Hours (1 Full day).

SLS eLearning Platform - How to access and enrol in your online training
The SLS eLearning platform is an online learning management system for members to complete online learning and theory assessment components of SLS courses. It is also a system that helps SLSC Chief Training Officers and other education team members monitor and administer online course records.
Accessing the eLearning Platform
The first time you access the SLS eLearning Platform, you need to login via the SLS Members Area and agree to some terms and conditions of use.
After this first time, you can then can access the SLS eLearning Platform via the:

SLSA Learning app that’s available to download from both the Google Play Store for android devices and the Apple App Store for apple devices.
Note:
Both ways require a good internet connection and for you to log in using your own SLS Members Area login details.

Enrolling in SLS Online Courses
After accessing the SLS eLearning Platform, you can enrol into a course within the ‘Training Library’ menu.
The courses are grouped into categories to make them easier to find. For example, you will find the latest online Skills Maintenance course within the Skills Maintenance Category.
After you enrol in an online course, it will be available for you to start and return to within your ‘My Training’ menu.
If your Trainer has allocated you a course, you will find it within your ‘My Training’ menu.
